How to kill flies at home

1. Use glue sticking trap

You can easily find fly stick glue trap at supermarkets, grocery stores, or insecticide stores. Open fly glue sticks and place it on hotspot areas where the flies often park and landed, such as kitchens and garbage cans. Then add a few drops of cooking oil on this glue stick to attract flies. When you see the glue is full of flies, throw it away and replace it with a new one. You can get rid of flies this way.

2. Lemongrass essential oil and candle

Melt candle and mixed it with lemongrass essential oil. Then fill the candle mould with the wax and wait until it becomes solid. Then light this candle and leave it in the house or on the kitchen counter, the flies will no longer dare to approach your home.

Flies are petrified to the lemongrass odour because citronella contains Citral and Geraniol; in any case, it will keep the flies away. By mixing these two compounds, you will have a potent deodorizing, antibacterial, and repelling effect on flies.

3. Mint

You can use fresh or dried mint to repel the flies. Hang them at the entry points of your home or you can cut mint leaves into the water and place them on the tables or near windows. To get more effect to the mint add a bit of basil onto it.

4. Plastic bag of water

You can also use a full bag of water to prevent flies by hanging them near the window or door because the water will create confusion for the flies. The fact that flies’ eyes have an extraordinary structure that can change perspectives regularly and from many directions, light through the water bag does not go in a straight line but causes light refraction when the flies look at it and make them bend in the direction in which the light is visible.

5. Clove

You can also put cloves in cheesecloth bags and hang them on windows or corners. Clove odour will prevent flies from flying into your house.

Alternatively, you could stick a few cloves on apple and place it on the dining table. When cloves are plugged into an apple, the water from the apple releases the smell of cloves, which will repel the flies. On top of that, the pleasant scent of cloves will spread throughout your home, creating a comfortable and pleasant feeling.

6. A mixture of soap water and chili powder

Mix soap with water in a 1: 1 ratio, then add flavours such as lemon, apple cider vinegar to kill more flies. Next, pour the mixed solution into the spray bottle, add a bit of chilli powder and spray it on the places where flies commonly come, such as corners of the kitchen or house. Flies will be destroyed by drinking the mixture.

7. Black Pepper

Flies are very allergic to the strong odour of black pepper. Mix the egg yolks with sugar and a spoonful of black pepper and place it where you see flies in the house to repel flies.

8. Lavender

Put a vase of flowers or maybe plant a small pot of lavender in the house that can combine home decoration, the scent of lavender helps keep flies away. You can also hang dry lavender bags by windows, corners, or kitchen cabinets to help kill flies more effectively. Besides, the scent of lavender also helps you dispel stress, fatigue.

9. Plastic bottle

The advantage of this fly trap is both inexpensive and very easy to implement.

How to make: take a large plastic bottle like Coke, Pepsi bottles, cut the top of the bottle up to 1/3. To bait the bottom of the bottle, you can use wine, honey, apple cider vinegar, etc. Take the cut off the top of the bottle and put it in a funnel shape, making it easy for the flies to enter the trap. Then, place bottles at gathering places to attract flies at home.

10. Control flies by vinegar

You mix some vinegar with dishwashing liquid or soap into a cup. Placing a plastic funnel on the top of the glass, the aroma of vinegar will attract the flies in, but the soap will lose the tension of the vinegar surface, causing flies to drown and died. So you can eradicate the fly species quickly.
